2006 Back Cove 29

Alameda, California

$149,000

The Back Cove 29 is a most recent example of everything that makes the Down East lobster boat a work of art. She has a traditional spoon bow and her transom is gently sloped: a style that will turn heads in any harbor she enters.

Redtai is an exceptionally well equipped Back Cover 29 with the upgrade 315hp Yanmar, 550 bow & stern thrusters, dome radar, windlass, aft cockpit seats, composite hardtop and more.

With gracious accommodations she seems much larger than a 29 footer with a spacious cockpit seating arrangement featuring matching helm/companion chairs plus L-Shaped and aft benches. Cabin sleeps two comfortably in an oversized V-Berth that doubles as the dining area. Galley with dual fuel cooktop, sink, and refrigerator. Full head with hot/cold shower, sink and electric toilet w/macerator. Plenty of storage throughout the entire vessel.

Construction: Hull and Deck

The Back Cove 29 is built by North End Composites, known for their fiberglass tooling and parts production. The deck and cockpit feature a two-tone non-skid molded in a diamond pattern..

Below the waterline, the Back Cove 29 is cored with vacuum-bagged Divinycell foam. This is cross-linked with PVC foam that is completely impervious to water absorption and rot. This cored bottom makes the running surfaces stiffer, stronger, quieter, and dryer. The hull is made in a one-piece mold, with overlapping reinforcements at the centerline, the chines, and over the top of the prop pocket. Structural reinforcements with Kit E Glass. These modern materials eliminate the fiber crimping of woven roving and present a smoother surface under the gelcoat.

The hull-deck joint is a "shoebox lid" type, with 3M5200 bonding adhesive spread throughout the flange area. This makes for permanent and watertight joint. Stainless steel machine screws are tapped through the deck and into the hull at approximately 10" intervals , clamping the parts together while the adhesive sets, and adding extra mechanical strength to the joint. The rubrail screws also go through the hull/deck joint, and are hidden by the stainless half-oval.

The engine mounts are made of Urethane foam and marine grade plywood. There are multiple plies of structural E glass reinforcement laminating them to the hull bottom. Where the sea valves, bow thruster, rudder port and shaft strut penetrate the hull, the core is deleted. The inside of the engine comparment is gel-coated for ease of cleanup and good looks.
