2006 J Boats J/133

Alameda, California

$225,000

Bacchanal is an exceptionally well-equipped and extensively updated J/133 that combines the performance, balance, and sailing qualities for which J/Boats are known with a remarkably complete inventory for coastal and offshore cruising.

The J/133 has long occupied a sweet spot in the J/Boats range: fast enough to be a serious race boat, powerful and rewarding to sail, yet easily managed by a small crew and fitted with a comfortable, practical cruising interior. Bacchanal has demonstrated both sides of that versatility. She finished 2nd in ORC A at the 2023 Rolex Big Boat Series and followed that with another 2nd-place finish in Class C at the 2024 Big Boat Series. In 2025, she completed the Baja Ha-Ha, demonstrating her ability to transition from competitive racing to extended offshore cruising.

Over the past five years, more than $225,000 has been invested in Bacchanal's maintenance, refit, and equipment upgrades, with major work professionally completed by KKMI and Farallon Electronics. Significant projects include a replacement Yanmar SD60 saildrive, complete replacement of the rod standing rigging, extensive mast and boom work, new headsail furler, major lithium battery and electrical upgrades, Victron inverter/charging system, B&G H5000 electronics, upgraded anchoring system, Spectra watermaker, Starlink, and extensive offshore cruising and safety equipment.

Much of the recent work was undertaken in preparation for the 2025 Baja Ha-Ha and extended offshore cruising. The result is a J/133 where many of the large and expensive projects typically facing the buyer of a performance yacht of this age have already been addressed, while her recent racing results demonstrate that the added cruising capability has not diminished her performance pedigree.

For the sailor looking for a fast San Francisco Bay boat, competitive racer, performance cruiser, or capable offshore passagemaker, Bacchanal offers a rare combination of proven performance, extensive recent investment, and true dual-purpose capability.

Priced to sell at $225,000.

Interior & Accommodations

Unlike many stripped-out performance boats, the J/133 provides a genuinely comfortable and functional cruising interior.

Forward is a private cabin with double berth and useful storage.

The main salon is bright and inviting, with traditional teak joinery, comfortable settee seating and a practical offshore layout. The cabin sole has been refinished and the interior presents particularly well for a performance yacht of this age.

A proper navigation station provides an excellent working area for the boat's B&G navigation equipment, communications systems and electrical controls.

Aft to starboard is a private double cabin.

The port aft area is configured differently and particularly well suited to offshore use, with a single sea berth combined with dedicated sail, line and equipment storage. This provides valuable working storage without sacrificing a proper offshore berth.

Galley

The galley is designed for practical use both underway and at anchor and includes:

  • Force 10 three-burner stove with oven
  • Double stainless-steel sinks
  • Refrigeration
  • Generous counter space
  • Storage for provisions and galley equipment
Cruising Equipment

Considerable attention has been given to making Bacchanal comfortable and self-sufficient away from the dock.

  • Cabin heating system
  • 900Ah lithium house bank
  • Victron 3000W inverter/charger
  • High-output Balmar alternator

The custom liferaft cradle was professionally installed by KKMI.

Why Bacchanal?

The real value in Bacchanal isn't simply the length of her equipment list. It is where the money has been recently spent.

Standing rigging, saildrive, mast and boom, chainplates, headsail furling, electrical distribution, lithium batteries, charging system, inverter/charger, electronics network, anchoring system, lifelines, offshore communications and safety equipment have all received substantial professional attention.

Those are precisely the systems that can turn the purchase of an older high-performance yacht into a lengthy and expensive refit.

With Bacchanal, much of that work has already been done.

She remains fundamentally what makes the J/133 special: fast, powerful, responsive and rewarding to sail, but she has also been thoughtfully developed into a capable performance cruiser that can comfortably take her owners well beyond the Bay.

For someone looking for a J/133 to race, cruise, or do both, Bacchanal represents an exceptional amount of boat and equipment at $225,000.
