2011 J Boats J/111
Big Blast is a 2011 J/111 that’s been raced, loved, and consistently maintained. Brought west from Chicago in 2013, she’s a fast, well-set-up example of the class—competitive when campaigned, gently cruised since, and kept to a high standard. Located in Sausalito, ready for her next owner.
Originally raced in Chicago, Big Blast was shipped to California in 2013 and saw two highly successful seasons before transitioning to light cruising and club racing. The boat has been maintained annually, with the bottom and engine serviced in 2023.
From her Awlgrip red hull to her Carbonautica wheel and H5000 brains, Big Blast was built to win and kept to last. Raced hard when new, pampered ever since—she’s proof that speed and care can live under one deck.
Launched in 2011 and brought west from Chicago in 2013, Big Blast quickly made her mark. She was set up fast and proved it—winning races through 2014 before her owner’s schedule shifted to lighter sailing. Since then she’s been meticulously maintained, her red hull gleaming, her systems refreshed. The bottom and engine were redone in 2023, and a full B&G H5000 suite with Zeus plotter was added in 2022.
The cockpit feels purposeful—Carbonautica 59” carbon wheel, clean Harken hardware, traveler and jib leads at hand. Below, the white-trimmed interior keeps the J/111’s race-bred simplicity but adds practical touches: fold-up pilot berths, opening ports aft, a tidy galley, and real space to stow sails.
Her sail wardrobe tells her story—North and Doyle race sails from her competitive years, a lightly used cruising #2, and a storm trysail waiting for offshore adventure.
Big Blast isn’t just another J/111. She’s a quick, honest example with the right gear, a proven past, and the polish of an owner who always cared. Lying Sausalito, CA.
